Gio Reyna pens new deal at Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund youngster, Gio Reyna, has signed a deal which ties him down with the German giants until June of 2025.

Reyna has been breaking records recently. He became his country’s third-youngest goalscorer in history 18 years and 3 days old due to a free-kick he netted on Monday against Panama also became the first 17-year-old to record 3 assists in a single Bundesliga match since records began in 1992 during his side’s 4-0 thumping of Freiburg on October 3.

Reyna found himself in Dortmund's first team in January, shortly after a 2019 transfer from New York City, since then he has scored 4 goals and created 6 assists in 30 appearances across all competitions.

It seems that both the club and the player are content with the decision. The talented midfielder said: "BVB are a big club that can challenge for titles and are in all the important competitions. Young players in particular have the chance to develop here." When we look at the likes of Jadon Sancho, Christian Pulisic, Erling Haaland and Achraf Hakimi, the club's ability to nurture these young talents helps to back up Reyna’s claims. "I have already learned a lot in Dortmund and I want to learn a lot more in the future. I look forward to being with BVB in the long term."

I believe that the US international has made the correct decision, Borussia Dortmund clearly believe in his potential with Sporting Director Michael Zorc saying: "Gio's development in recent months has been incredible. He will definitely be an important part of Borussia Dortmund's sporting future.” The future only holds good things for Gio Reyna as he continues to grow under one of world football’s biggest teams.
