Find Out How You Can Watch Your Favorite English Team At Their Stadium Again
Football stadiums in England might have fans inside after the national lockdown ends on December 2. The policy to return fans to stadiums will be adopted via a tier-based approach. Regions will be classified into tiers based on how high-risk they are.
Tier 3 regions are at the biggest risk for Covid-19 infections and they will have no spectators until their situation improves. Tier 2 and 1 regions will be able to host up to two thousand and four thousand fans respectively or 50% capacity (based on which one is the lowest.)
Prime Minister, Boris Johnson confirmed that the announcement on what regions will fall into which specific tiers will be made on Thursday November 26th. Lastly, Mr Johnson also said outdoor grassroots sports and indoor sports facilities like gyms would be able to reopen.
This will relieve financial strain on many lower-league clubs because many of them have struggled to stay afloat due to the lack of matchday revenue. Coronavirus has prevented many of them from making crucial profit from tickets, concessions and merchandise.
In addition, a statement release by the Premier League said: “Fans have been greatly missed at Premier League matches and therefore we welcome the Prime Minister’s announcement today regarding the return of supporters for the first time since March, albeit at small numbers,"
"Our ambition remains to work with Government to increase attendance to more substantial levels. Until this can be done, many fans will be unable to attend games and our clubs will continue to operate matches at a financial loss.
"Our priority continues to be the agreement of a roadmap, with DCMS and the Sports Technology and Innovation Group, for pilot events that can help our clubs quickly scale up to larger capacities in line with the Sports Ground Safety Authority’s COVID-secure guidelines and beyond.
"Premier League clubs have a proven track record of achieving high-biosecurity standards and we believe we can play a significant role in the Government’s rapid turnaround testing initiative.
"We look forward to working with Government on their next steps."
Fans will definitely be yearning to get back into stadiums to support their teams because the last Premier League match to have fans in England was when Leicester City hosted Aston Villa at The King Power Stadium on March 9. The Foxes came out 4-0 victors.
