Daily Football Tid-bits: England squad review November, Mason Greenwood, Phil Foden, Callum Wilson
Gareth Southgate announced his 29 man squad to play the 3 upcoming games against Ireland, Belgium and Iceland. Phil Foden was named in the England squad. He has been reintroduced into the Three Lions camp after some controversial antics with fellow England international, Mason Greenwood, in Reykjavík. The 2 youngsters invited some people into their hotel room amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Greenwood has been left out of this squad despite some impressive displays at club level.
Phil Foden has done well this season and is widely considered one of England’s brightest prospects. Featuring in 6 of the Citizen’s league games this season, Foden has managed 2 goals. Foden has been poking around the scene for a few seasons now. Pep Guardiola sees potential in him, Guardiola famously prevented him from going out on loan, convinced that he would learn from staying at the Etihad Stadium. Loans are widely considered a great method for talented youngsters to gain confidence and experience, often in lower leagues.
Newcastle fans are slightly surprised that Callum Wilson has been left out of the squad given his stellar start to the season. Wilson has scored 6 goals in 7 games for the Magpies as they sit in 11th position in the Premier League.
I want to wish the Three Lions the best of luck in these upcoming fixtures. Whoever is included, they have a strong squad. The most debatable inclusion may be Eric Dier, but I suspect he was included due to his ability to cover multiple positions. Other than that Nick Pope, Ben Chilwell, Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling were always guaranteed to be included. The likes of Kyle Walker, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Harry Winks and even Jordan Pickford may turn some heads. Gareth Southgate must have had a selection-headache given the amount of quality available to him.
