Daily Football Tid-bits: Arsène Wenger is Against Arsenal's Choice to Fire Gunnersaurus
Arsenal fired 55 staff members in August due to cost cutting measures. Among those sacked was Jerry Quy, the man behind Gunnersaurus. Quy had been donning the iconic suit since its birth in 1993. According to The Sun, the board deemed the mascot surplus to requirements due to the lack of supporters in stadiums. Arsenal experienced some major backlash from their fanbase, one man who has been very vocal is, former coach, Arsène Wenger. in an interview with So Foot he stated: “ The decision was financially unjustifiable. I don't know what got into them. " He also continues to claim that no one can understand it and anyone who supports Arsenal is against it. Finally, he wraps up by saying: “They laid off 55 people, which could possibly be explained by a certain reorganisation, a desire for efficiency. The mascot cannot be justified by a desire to rebalance finances. It's incomprehensible." Arsène Wenger, who left at the end of the 2017/18 season, is one of Arsenal’s most legendary coaches of all time. His Arsenal team was the only Premier League team ever to go unbeaten for a whole season. His squads featured the likes of Theirry Henry, Denis Berkampt, Ashley Cole and Tony Adams. The Frenchman holds an unforgettable legacy within the footballing world. If Arsenal want to do the right thing, they should listen to Wenger’s advice. What will a game at the Emirates Stadium feel like without the jovial green dinosaur?
