Ansu Fati Is Officially The Best Player In The World

Ansu Fati picked up this year’s NXGN award, which officially crowns him as the best player born after January 1st 2002. NXGN is an annual award given by Goal.com and voted on by journalists from its 62 editions. It determines 50 of the best young footballers in the world. This win comes after the Barça starlet finished 2nd in the same list a year ago. Fati is the 6th male winner of this award, which began in 2016. Previous winners such as Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, Real Madrid’s Rodrygo and Leicester’s Youri Tielemans, among others, have all gone on to take big steps with their careers.

Ansu Fati came in 1st despite a number of injury problems earlier this season. However, if he can maintain fitness it’s simple to state that he is destined for stardom. This season, he has played 7 games, scoring 4 goals and is seen by many Blaugrana supporters as the natural heir to Lionel Messi.

Ansu Fati Also appeared alongside fellow Barcelona youth stars, Pedri, who came in 4th and Ilaix Moriba, 50th. On the podium were Rennes and French star Eduardo Camavinga (3rd) and Borussia Dortmund and USMNT forward, Giovani Reyna (2nd). Other notable names on the list were, Harvey Elliott (26th,) the youngest ever player to feature in the Premier League, Red Devil, Amad Daillo (19th) and Ajax’s midfield Engine, Ryan Gravenberch (7th.)

Barcelona have looked like clunky, ineffective underachievers at certain points this season. However, one bright spot amid this campaign of on-and-off field predicaments has been the youngsters. Pedri, and in particular, Ansu Fati have both come through the academy and look able to lead the next generation of players. I have no doubt the duo are in Ronald Koeman’s plans as the team attempts to phase out of a Messi-reliant era.
